Racing Update: August 26th, 2010

Can you believe it?  A record was set this weekend at Bristol.  This is one of the toughest tracks in NASCAR.  If you could only see this place.  It's a half-mile track and the stands just hover above it.  It was packed too with over 170,000 people in attendance.

Racing Update: August 5th, 2010

I'll start out with a racing update and tell you how hard it is to win in professional sports.  About 16 weeks ago, we ran off a 10 race stretch where we won 7 races.  Denny Hamlin won 5 races and Kyle Busch won 2.  At that point, we were dominating after getting off to a rough start.  But the last 5 weeks have been extremely tough for us.

One of the most exciting things about our Game Plan For Life project is the new release of the Game Plan For Life small group study.  LifeWay put a lot into this study.  They came here and filmed at the shop with the co-host of the study, Derwin Gray.  We also filmed at the football stadium here as well.  I think this is extremely well done and the videos are good introductions to each topic.

We had a big Cup weekend in Pocono.  With two laps to go, it was looking like it was going to be our best finish ever!  As it ended up, Denny won the race, Kyle did a great job finishing second, and Joey was wrecked making a pass for 4th.  So, again we end up with some controversy.

Can you and I influence young people?  I would have to say that we can--can't we?  We know a number of years back that some folks in the Middle East taught some young people to hate everybody and we wound up with the September 11th travesty.

TRANSCRIPT: All right. (Waits for crowd to quite down.) God, thank you for this day. thank you for everything you give us. thank you for dying on the cross. And please help everybody and their family be good. And i pray for the race car drivers. Kyle, and Denny, and Joey the most. And i pray for other drivers to win sometimes, too. And I pray for people in the hospital. I don't want them to get sick. and i pray for my mom and the carnival - she still has to plan just a little bittle. And I still pray for sunshine. Amen.
